Achieving the Food Security Strategy by Quantifying Food Loss and Waste. A Case Study of the Chinese Economy

Undernourished and food insecurity are recognized as two highly relevant topics. Approximately 820 million people in the world undernourished 2 billion have moderate or severe (FAO). In addition, globally roughly one-third of is not consumed wasted. This article aims to provide an updated estimate loss waste (FLW) China as, period 2016–2018, there were still 122 this country experiencing undernourishment. research, we use a top-down mass balance approach, discuss how it affects achievement SDG 2, Zero Hunger, that linked also target 12.3 “seeks halve global at retail consumer levels, well reduce during production supply” (United Nations). We point out some challenges private public policies need overcome FLW. The results research may contribute more accurate baseline for design strategies related FLW corresponding SDGs.
